On May 9, the Department of Telecommunications had ordered telecom companies that there is a possibility of misuse of 28,220 mobile phones and about 20 lakh SIM cards. Of these, 18 lakh SIMs and thousands of mobile phones are expected to be affected. Nowadays, many big economic crimes have been committed with the help of mobile phones and SIM cards. The number of online frauds is increasing. In such a situation, it has become very important to take this action.

Cyber ​​crimes worth Rs 10,319 crore occurred in the year 2023

According to the National Cyber ​​Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP), victims of cyber crime have suffered a loss of about Rs 10,319 crore in the year 2023. A committee of Parliament said that in the year 2023, about 6.94 lakh complaints of financial crimes were registered. According to officials, to avoid law enforcement agencies and telecom companies, fraudsters move to other telecom circles and use different SIM cards. Apart from this, multiple SIMs can be changed in the same phone. These people change SIM only after making a few calls.

Last year 2 lakh SIMs were switched off

Last year also, telecom companies had blocked more than 2 lakh SIMs related to cyber crime. After this, about 37 thousand suspicious SIMs were blocked in Mewat, Haryana. From time to time, the government has been directing telecom companies to take action against suspicious SIMs.
