Ranchi ED raid: ED takes major action before Lok Sabha elections in Jharkhand Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam's personal secretary Sanjeev Kumar Lal and Sanjeev Kumar Lal's servant Jahangir Alam were arrested late on Monday night. Both will be taken to court this afternoon, where ED will seek remand.
A day earlier, ED had raided six locations linked to the minister. A total cash amount of Rs 35 crore 23 lakh was found in this raid.

On Monday, ED simultaneously raided half a dozen locations linked to the state government's Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam. In the raid, ED recovered about Rs 35.23 crore from different places. ED raided the houses of minister Alamgir Alam's personal secretary Sanjeev Kumar Lal and his servant Jahangir Alam, two engineers Kuldeep Minj and Vikas Kumar and contractor Munna Singh.
Maximum Rs 31.20 crore was recovered from the flat of Harmu Road of Jahangir Alam, servant of the minister's private secretary Sanjeev Kumar Lal. Apart from this, contractor Munna Singh got Rs 2 crore 93 lakh from there and Rs 10 lakh from another place.
Several machines were brought to count the seized notes and 10 big boxes and bags were brought to carry this money. Counting of the seized money continued till late night. A large quantity of digital equipment and documents were also seized in the raid.
ED proceedings in the case related to Virendra Ram
ED has taken this action in the case related to former Chief Engineer of Rural Development Department, Virendra Ram. Virendra Ram was arrested by ED on 23 February 2023 in the tender scam. Since then he is in jail.
ED had revealed during the investigation of Virendra Ram that he had received around Rs 50 lakh. Property worth Rs 125 crore was acquired. After which ED also arrested five other associates of Virendra Ram.
