The festival of Mahashivratri is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Special worship of Bholenath is done on this day. This festival has great importance in Hindu religion. On this auspicious day, devotees keep fast to please Lord Bholenath, but people observing fast on Mahashivratri should keep some important things in mind, because a small mistake can make your fast incomplete. It is believed that by worshiping Lord Shiva with a true and steadfast mind, every wish is fulfilled. Know the time of Mahashivratri
According to the Panchang, the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of Phalgun month will start on 8 March 2024 at 09:57 PM and will end on 9 March 2024 at 06:17 PM. Mahashivratri worship is done during Nishita period only and the auspicious time of Nishita period will start from 12:05 am on March 8 and will last till 12:56 am. This time the duration of Nishita will be only 51 minutes. So this time the fast and worship of Mahashivratri festival will be done on Friday, March 8, 2024.
You can eat these things during fasting
- People who observe fast on Mahashivratri can consume apple, banana, orange, pomegranate etc. during the fast. This maintains energy in the body and also keeps the stomach full. Apart from this, people observing fast can also consume grains like coriander, cumin and fennel.
- Water is consumed according to the fast on the day of Shivratri. Extreme restraint is observed in food on the day of Shivratri, when certain types of fasting food may be consumed, such as sago khichdi or fruits. Lord Shiva is worshiped on the day of Shivratri, in which Shivalinga is consecrated and prayers are offered.
- You can drink cold drinks during Mahashivratri fast. It also helps in removing stomach heat. Thandai prasad is also distributed to Shiva devotees. If you want, you can make Thandai according to your favorite fruits.
- During the fast you can eat things made from wheat flour. You can make halwa, puri or paratha and eat it with this flour. You will not feel weak by eating this during fasting. It is advisable to eat dry fruits during the fast. During Mahashivratri fast, you can eat cashew nuts, raisins, almonds, makhana etc. During the fast of Mahashivratri, you can eat sago khichdi, laddu, halwa.
Do not consume these things
- People observing fast on Mahashivratri should not consume garlic and onion even by mistake. Even white salt is not eaten on this day.
- During Mahashivratri fast, grains like rice, wheat, barley, millet, maize etc. are not eaten and peanuts, gram, kidney beans, peas etc. are also not eaten.
