Purnia, September 21 (HS). The 111th birth anniversary of late Bhola Paswan Shastri, who was the Chief Minister of Bihar thrice, was celebrated as a state function by the Purnia district administration on Saturday. The program was organized at his native village Bairgachhi and the statue site located at Khajha Kothi. The function also included an all-religion prayer meeting and cultural programs.
Lesy Singh, Minister of Food and Consumer Protection Department of Bihar Government was present as the chief guest. Along with District Magistrate Kundan Kumar, she garlanded the statue at Shastri Chowk in Purnia city. After this, celebrations were also organized at Bairgachhi and Khajha Kothi.
In his address, Minister Lesi Singh threw light on Shastri Ji's life and his honesty. He said that Shastri Ji received higher education despite poverty and difficult circumstances and became Chief Minister three times on the strength of his personality and honesty. The minister said that due to his efforts, Shastri Ji's birthday got the status of a state function and an agricultural college was opened in Purnia in his name.
District Magistrate Kundan Kumar praised Shastri ji's dedication towards education and his development work. Local public representatives and a large number of people participated in the function. The program concluded with the address of District Supply Officer Ravi Shankar.
