Jalandhar: Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on Thursday arrested Rajdeep Nagra, an agent close to former Congress minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, from his native village Ekolahi in Khanna near Ludhiana. The ED was conducting raids since Wednesday. Rajdeep Nagra was brought to the ED office Jalandhar and taken to the Civil Hospital for medical examination. After this, he was produced in the special PMLA court. The court has sent Rajdeep to ED remand till September 9.
On the other hand, Bharat Bhushan Ashu also appeared in the case through video conferencing (VC) from Kapurthala Modern Jail, where he has been lodged since August 13. Special PMLA Judge-cum-Additional District and Sessions Judge Dharmender Paul Singla extended Ashu's judicial custody till September 19. In the case of Rajdeep's arrest, ED sources revealed that they did not find any cash in Nagra premises, including his shop, office and residence, but managed to recover some incriminating evidence. ED sources revealed that Nagra was closely associated with Ashu since his tenure as Food and Civil Supplies Minister. The officials have found evidence of collusion between Ashu, sacked Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies Department RK Singla, department officials and contractors.
