Just one and a half months before the release of Bollywood superstar Ranbir Kapoor’s much-awaited and grand mythological epic film ‘Ramayana Part 1’, the producers associated with the film have taken a historic and shocking strategic decision. Extensive preparations are underway to present this cinematic saga globally, which is being made on the biggest budget and grand technical scale in the history of Indian cinema, but the makers have announced an important change regarding its foreign version to be released in the international markets. A whopping 30 minutes have been cut directly from the total runtime of the English version shown in overseas cinemas. This simply means that Hollywood and international audiences will not be able to watch the extended 30-minute portion that will be shown in Indian theatres.
The most surprising change in the English dubbed version being prepared for the global audience has been made in its musical aspect. In the Indian version of the film, the grand devotional bhajans and traditional music that bring to life the saga of Lord Shri Ram and his child Leelas, Swayamvar and Ayodhya festivals have been completely removed from the international English print. After this official decision of the makers, now not a single song or traditional track will be heard during the film in foreign theaters. Additionally, many lengthy dramatic scenes and conversations have been cut down to keep the film’s narration straight to the main plot without any traditional pauses.
According to concrete information quoting global media report ‘Variety India’, the film’s director Nitish Tiwari and his international post-production team are preparing two completely different edits for the Indian domestic market and the foreign international circuit. Originally made for the Indian audience, ‘Ramayana Part 1’ has been scheduled to have a total duration of around 3 hours (180 minutes). Meanwhile, in response to demand from foreign distributors and global cinema chains, 30 minutes of footage has been trimmed down to form the English version into a tight, fast-paced action-drama cinematic package of approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Senior trade analysts of the film industry believe that this bold step has been taken keeping in mind the cinematic tastes of the international audience and their content consumption patterns. While audiences in India and the Asian subcontinent crave for emotional, musical and detailed narrative genres of more than 3 hours, audiences in the West and Hollywood prefer shorter, faster-paced films. In foreign multiplexes, intermissions between songs are considered to slow the pace of the story, which mainstream Hollywood audiences often cannot digest. With this global mindset and the aim of ensuring maximum screening of shows at the western box office, Nitish Tiwari has decided to make the film short, tight and high-paced for the foreign audience.
Along with this major editing change, the makers have also made a big revelation regarding the international release schedule of the film. ‘Ramayana Part 1’ will start its global journey by hitting foreign theaters just two days before its release in the domestic market. According to the fixed official calendar, the film will be released on worldwide screens abroad on Wednesday, 6 November 2026. On the other hand, for the Indian audience, this much-awaited mythological film will be released simultaneously in multiple Indian languages in theaters across the country on Friday, November 8, 2026.
