Bhagirathi river in spate in Gangotri Dham, DM gave instructions to ensure safety measures

Uttarkashi, 27 July (HS). District Magistrate Dr. Meherban Singh Bisht, in view of the possible dangers due to the rising water level of Bhagirathi river in Gangotri Dham and the river water flowing over the bathing ghats, directed the Executive Engineer of the Irrigation Division to immediately visit the spot and take stock of the situation. He has asked the Executive Engineer to ensure protective measures.

The District Magistrate has issued an order in this regard and said that along with taking immediate security measures at the Ghats in Gangotri, adequate resources should be deployed on the spot and regular information should be provided regarding the actual situation. The District Magistrate has also asked to provide a report within two days regarding the flow of Bhagirathi river and necessary security works.

The District Magistrate has asked the Superintendent of Police to deploy adequate number of police and SDRF personnel near the ghats in Gangotri and keep continuous surveillance round the clock.

The District Magistrate has also instructed the Deputy Director of Gangotri National Park to regularly monitor the glacier and river in the Gomukh area and send information about the water level to the Emergency Operations Center every two hours. The Emergency Operations Center is also constantly monitoring the condition of Gangotri Dham through the CCTV network and giving necessary instructions to the personnel deployed on the spot. Revenue personnel have also been deployed in Gangotri by the administration.

On the other hand, the situation in Yamunotri area remained normal today. The blocked road near Shubham Hotel in Jankichatti was opened and the stranded vehicles were sent to their destination. About 40 meters of road was washed away by river erosion there and about a hundred small and big vehicles were not able to return to various parking places beyond that.
