Bemetara, May 10 (Hindustan Reporter) Akti Tihar and Mati Pujan Day was organized on Friday at RSV Agricultural College and Research Centre, Dholiya Bemetara. On this occasion, Akti Tihar was started by performing traditional puja and soil worship on the premises of Agricultural College, Bemetara.
The work of soil worship and seed ceremony was done by Dr. Sandeep Bhandarkar, Dean, Agriculture College, Bemetara. He started it by sowing ragi, paddy and Barsim seeds in the field. Assistant Professor of Agriculture College, Dr. U.K. Dhruva and Dr. Asit Kumar were present as special guests in the Mati Pujan program.
The Dean of the college said in his address that Akti Tihar is a major festival of Chhattisgarh. Farming starts in the region from Akti Tihar and farmers start seed germination from this day. This festival connects us with our soil and culture, connects us with our history and society, hence traditional festivals should not be forgotten. The stage event of this day is a good opportunity to tell the importance of this day. In which farmers do the work of soil worship, deity worship and sowing of seeds. He explained the importance of community seed bank and inspired the students for traditional seed collection. Even though we are abandoning the traditions by getting entangled in the material worlds of the modern era, but following this tradition also connects us to our soil.
In this program, lectures/speeches were presented by the students on various topics like importance of grains and minor grain crops of Bemetara region and seeds in Akti Tihar. Along with this, Rangoli was also made by the students of Agriculture College using grains, fruits, vegetables and colours. Dr. Umesh Kumar Dhruv, Dr. Asit Kumar, Dr. Bharti Baghel, Dr. Preeti Pankra, Dr. Sakshi Bajaj, Pratibha Singh and other officers/employees of Agriculture College Bemetara were present in this program.
