New Delhi, July 11 (HS). After a 2-1 defeat in the first match against hosts Myanmar, the Indian Senior National Women's Team will once again face their higher-ranked neighbour in the second friendly match at the Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon on Friday.
Chief coach Chaoba Devi, who saw her players lose despite a spirited performance, has made her priorities clear ahead of Friday's tie.
“Reducing our mistakes in the next match and taking collective responsibility is the key to winning tomorrow's match at any cost,” he was quoted as saying by AIFF on Thursday.
On Tuesday, Myanmar took an early lead with a header from Win Theingi Tun's corner kick in the 14th minute. Pyari Xaxa scored the equaliser for India in the 58th minute. However, San Thaw Thaw scored the decisive goal for Myanmar in the 74th minute. India could not penetrate the Myanmar defence despite several chances created by Anju Tamang, Sangeeta Basphor and Soumya Guguloth.
When asked about the opponents, the coach said, “Their strong point is their excellent touch and penetrating passes. We have to block their penetrating runs and passes. They are a technically strong team. We had many good chances in the first half, but our lack of finishing cost us a lot. We have to improve on this in the next match.”
He further added, “We need to focus on our finishing. This is one area where we faced problems in the Turkish Women's Cup and also in the tour of Uzbekistan. We did some serious work on it during the Kolkata camp, but I think we need more time to improve in this area.”
Pyari, who scored the only goal for India, said, “Our game was good overall, but we made some mistakes. But we are working hard to correct such mistakes for the next game. All the girls are focused on getting a result in the second game. We have to play together and help each other. If we can do that, we can definitely win this match. The coach has supported us a lot. We all want to give our hundred percent for our country and hopefully we will get a good result tomorrow.”
