Erode parliamentary constituency in Tamil Nadu has started its election process with the collection of postal ballots from registered voters. As of April 4, election officials have collected a total of 3,001 postal ballots from voters in the area. This initial phase of voting through postal ballot will continue till April 6.
Voters can vote through postal ballot after submitting Form 12D
The Election Commission introduced the measure to facilitate voting for certain demographics, including voters above 85 years of age, persons with disabilities and people infected with Covid-19 or showing symptoms of the virus. Eligible voters falling under this category can cast their vote through postal ballot after submitting Form 12D to the concerned polling station authorities.
Ballot papers must be kept securely in designated postal ballot boxes
To ensure transparency and accountability, the entire process of postal ballot collection is being carefully documented through videography. Election officials visit voters' residences to deliver postal ballots and after completion of voting, the ballot papers are safely placed in designated postal ballot boxes.
Facility for people unable to vote
In addition to the ongoing postal voting, officials have announced plans to collect more postal ballots on April 5 and April 6. A follow-up visit has been scheduled for April 8 to facilitate the participation of those who are unable to cast their vote during the initial visit.

Officials said 508 voters from Kumarapalayam, 228 from Erode (East), 532 from Erode (West), 810 from Modakkurichi, 608 from Dharapuram and 315 from Kangayam have expressed their desire to cast their votes through the ballot paper.

The first phase of voting for 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu will be held on April 19. This includes Tiruvallur, Chennai North, Chennai South, Chennai Central, Sriperumbudur, Kanchipuram, Arakkonam, Vellore, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tiruvannamalai, Arani, Villupuram, Kallakurichi and Salem.
