New Delhi: When you bring any item from the market in a packet like medicines, biscuits, milk, curd or beauty products, its expiry date is written on it, best before is written on some packets. But do you know the difference between the two?
Actually most people know about expiry date. But not everyone knows about best before and use by date. Most people think that these two things also mean expiry date. When it is not so. Each thing has a different meaning.
First understand the expiry date
Expiry date means the date after which a product is no longer usable. That is, if the expiry date of 20 June is written on any food item, then you cannot use that item after 20 June. If you also use that item after the expiry date, then it can harm your health. Especially do not use medicines after the expiry date. Doing so can harm you. Therefore, this rule also applies to dairy products.
Best before and use by are often written on food packets. Best before is a quality indicator of a thing. That is, if you eat something after the best before date, you will not get the taste and nutrients that were available before the best before date. That is why the use by date is written on the item, which gets spoiled in a few days. For example, you can see the use by date on the packet of milk, curd or bread. That is, if something is made today and it can be used in the next 4 days, then bye is used. So now if you see these things written on the packet, do not get confused.
