Railways have made rules regarding chain pulling. But sometimes people pull the chain just for fun or to get off mid-way.
Pulling the chain without reason is punishable by a fine of up to ₹1000 or imprisonment of up to 1 year by Indian Railways under Section 141 of the Railway Act.
But if you can pull the chain in these situations, like if a child is left on the platform or an elderly person is left behind and if your train is about to leave, then you can pull the chain.
Also, if any incident happens in the train or any emergency situation arises, the chain can still be extended. Whenever you pull the chain, you will have to give a solid reason behind it.
