Toilet Seat: Most people use phones in the toilet. Due to which they have no sense of time. But do you know that this habit of yours can give you many diseases. According to experts, no person should sit on the toilet seat for more than 10 minutes. This habit increases the risk of piles and weakening of pelvic muscles.

What happens if you sit on the toilet seat for too long?

Dr. Farah, assistant professor of medicine and director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at Stony Brook Medicine, said people should not spend more than 10 minutes in the toilet. Sitting on a toilet seat for a long time puts more pressure on the pelvic area, which can lead to conditions like rectal muscle weakness and pelvic floor dysfunction.

The toilet seat has an oval shape which narrows the butt and positions the rectum very low. Gravity pulls the lower part of the body down, putting pressure on the veins. This becomes a one-way valve where blood comes in, but blood can’t go back out. This causes the veins and blood vessels around the anus and lower rectum to become larger and fill with blood. This increases the risk of piles.
