Fatehabad, June 9 (HS). Superintendent of Police Aastha Modi said that cyber thugs have now started cheating through social media. The thugs are asking for money from the acquaintances of the person by putting someone else's WhatsApp DP on their own number. Many times acquaintances are getting trapped by these thugs just by seeing the DP and even transfer the money, so people need to be cautious. He was speaking in a special awareness campaign run by the local police on Sunday.
SP told that cyber criminals are active in the world of internet. They are constantly looking for new opportunities. Many times cyber criminals send you a message through WhatsApp by putting the picture of your acquaintance on WhatsApp and tell you that he is in an important meeting and some money is needed, because he will not be able to talk in the meeting, so send money to his account. During this, they also tell that this number also belongs to them. Since the profile photo has the picture of your acquaintance, you send the money in a hurry. In such a situation, if someone demands money from you by putting the profile photo of any of your acquaintances, then you should immediately be alert because no person will ask for help by sending a message in times of crisis. If your WhatsApp account is hacked, then you have to reset your WhatsApp immediately. After this, you will have to login to WhatsApp again as before. After this, OTP will come on your account and the account hacked by the criminal will be logged out. You have to do that as soon as possible, first of all you have to keep in mind that WhatsApp does not send any OTP without your permission. If you receive any such OTP, you should be cautious. Fraudsters on WhatsApp can rob you by pretending to be close to you. If someone close to you is asking for help, first call him and do not share any OTP.
Apart from this, you should also turn on the two factor authentication option in WhatsApp to increase safety. In such a situation, hackers or anyone will need another code apart from OTP before using your WhatsApp on another device. The SP said that in case of any kind of financial or online fraud, register your complaint by calling 1930. Apart from this, lodge your complaint at the Cyber Crime Police Station or the Cyber Help Desk established in your respective police station.
