Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans kept their playoff hopes alive with a 35-run win over Chennai Super Kings in the 59th match of IPL 2024, but due to a mistake, BCCI imposed a heavy fine on the entire team including the captain. CSK have been found guilty of slow over-rate for the second time in the GT season, due to which captain Shubman Gill has been fined Rs 1 lakh or 25 per cent of his match fee.

This is Shubman Gill's second mistake of slow over rate in IPL 2024, due to which he is now in danger of being banned for one match. If Gujarat Titans is found guilty of slow over-rate again in the next match, Shubman Gill will be fined Rs 30 lakh and will also be banned for one match, after which he will not be able to play his last match of the season.
According to a press release issued by the BCCI, Gill was fined Rs 24 lakh, his team's second offense of the season under the IPL Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences. The affected players, including the rest of the playing XI, have been individually fined Rs 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lower.
Batting first in this match, Gujarat Titans scored 231 runs on the basis of centuries from Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan, CSK team could score only 196 runs at the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. This is Chennai's sixth defeat in 12 matches. This defeat has made the team's path to the playoffs a bit difficult.
