Disclosure in the annual report
This disclosure has been made according to the BCCI's 2022-23 annual report. The report states that BCCI's total revenue from IPL-2023 has increased by 78% year-on-year to Rs 11,769 crore. The annual report states that the board's media rights revenue grew 131% to Rs 8,744 crore from IPL 2023, as against Rs 3,780 crore for IPL-2022.
Where did you earn so much money?
BCCI has earned a bumper income from the new media rights of IPL from 2023 to 2027. BCCI had made a deal for media rights for Rs 48,390 crore. In this, Disney's Hot Star bought the TV rights of IPL for Rs 23,575 crore, while Viacom-18's Jio Cinemas bought the digital rights of IPL for Rs 23,758 crore. Apart from this, BCCI has sold the title of IPL to sponsor Tata Sons for 5 years, which has earned BCCI Rs 2,500 crore. At the same time, My Circle-11 has got joint sponsorship from Rupay, Angel One and CEAT for Rs 1 crore. Earning of 1485 crore.
When did the IPL start?
IPL started in 2008. Before this league, BCCI did not have any special source of income. But after the start of IPL, BCCI beat all the cricket boards and achieved the number-1 position in terms of revenue. Now, seeing the IPL, many countries have started cricket leagues in their countries.
