The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced the Indian squad for the upcoming five-match T20 series against England. Fast bowler Mohammed Shami has returned to this team, who has been successful in making a place in the team after about 14 months. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant has not been included in the squad, while Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel will be seen playing as wicketkeeper batsmen. The selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar has selected a 15-member team, in which Axar Patel has been made the vice-captain.

Mohammed Shami’s return

Mohammed Shami last played the final for India in the ODI World Cup 2023 against Australia. He had to be out for a long time due to ankle surgery, which also ruled him out of IPL 2024 and T20 World Cup. However, Shami has made his way back into the team by performing brilliantly in domestic cricket. He strengthened his position by playing matches in Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The T20 series between India and England will start from January 22, in which the first match will be played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. After this, other matches will be held in Chennai, Rajkot, Pune and Mumbai respectively. Apart from this, the three-match ODI series between India and England will start from February 6.
