Mumbai: In stocks today, funds, experts have made a big change in the portfolio, while on the other hand funds, funds have shown a continuous rise in banking-finance frontline stocks for several days as compared to the big rise in capital goods-power stocks and consumer durable stocks, funds became massive sellers. Foreign portfolio investors made heavy net purchases of shares worth Rs 7,908 crore today, while local funds-domestic institutional investors made heavy net purchases of Rs 7,108 crore. Along with this, operators, funds booked huge profits in oil-gas stocks as well as automobile, realty, metal-mining, healthcare-pharmaceuticals, PSU, small, mid-cap stocks. In banking stocks, Bankex jumped 1129.53 points to 58468.88 due to aggressive fund buying led by HDFC Bank. The Sensex made a new intraday high of 77851.63 and closed at a new high of 77337.59, up 36.45 points. While the Nifty 50 spot touched a new intra-day peak of 23664 and finally closed at 23516, down 41.90 points.

The BSE Bankex index jumped 1129.53 points to close at 58468.88 as funds made aggressive buying in banking-finance stocks today. HDFC Bank rose by Rs 49.25 to Rs 1658, Axis Bank rose by Rs 35 to Rs 1226.25, ICICI Bank rose by Rs 21.70 to Rs 1144.75, Kotak Mahindra Bank rose by Rs 28.65 to Rs 1748.25, IndusInd Bank rose by Rs 22.35 to Rs 1529.45, State Bank of India rose by Rs 8 to Rs 852.60. Bank Nifty jumped 957.15 points to close at 51398.05.

Capital goods stocks gap up amid overbought warning: Hindustan Aeronautics drops Rs 220
The BSE Capital Goods index closed 1583.33 points lower at 72206.83 as funds and some analysts started ringing valuation warning bells in long overbought capital goods stocks today, booking big profits along with reshuffling portfolios in a major upheaval. Hindustan Aeronautics fell Rs 220.05 to Rs 5313.30, ABB India fell Rs 316.30 to Rs 8550, Schaeffler India fell Rs 167.05 to Rs 4643, Honeywell Automation fell Rs 1723.55 to Rs 55,191.15. BHEL fell by Rs 8.45 to Rs 297, Larsen & Toubro fell by Rs 98.30 to Rs 3590.40, Thermax fell by Rs 138.30 to Rs 5115, Siemens fell by Rs 157.70 to Rs 7568.40.

Sensex, Nifty based stocks suffered a setback today, but banking stocks rose and the trend remained positive, while fund operators in small, mid cap, cash stocks suddenly sold off heavily, the market condition worsened. There was a net sale of Rs 15,440.44 crore against a total purchase of Rs 22,548.24 crore.
