Bangladeshi Girl Arrest 17360891

A Kolkata court on Sunday sent a 20-year-old Bangladeshi girl to police custody for two weeks on charges of entering and roaming in India without a passport and visa. The girl claims that she is Hindu and her name is Baby Biswas, but she has no official documents to prove her identity. She was roaming first in Mumbai and then in Kolkata for the last 12 days. Police are trying to find out how he was allowed to enter India amid such security without any documents.

The girl was arrested under the Foreigners Act by officials of Entally police station near Sealdah railway station on Saturday. A Kolkata Police official, on condition of anonymity, said that the woman has claimed that she had entered India 12 days ago. She told that she had gone to Mumbai to work as a maid, but when she came to know that Mumbai Police was searching for Bangladeshi infiltrators, she returned to Kolkata. The woman said she was a resident of Barisal, and her statements were being verified.

Police have launched a probe to find out who helped the woman enter India without being caught, despite increased vigilance by the Border Security Force and other agencies since last year.

It is noteworthy that security was tightened in November amid reports of alleged attacks on the minority Hindu community and the arrest of Bangladesh-based ISKCON monk Chinmoy Krishna Das on treason charges. Several illegal immigrants from border districts and some Bengal citizens allegedly helping them have been arrested in recent weeks. Besides, the passport racket is also being investigated.
