Kanpur, 28 September (HS). A Bangladeshi fan, who was at the center of an alleged brawl on the first day of the second Test being played between India and Bangladesh at Green Park here on Friday, was admitted to the hospital.

Bangladeshi superfan Robbie initially said he had faced some violence from other fans, but later made a U-turn at the hospital, saying he was feeling unwell after suffering from dehydration in the Kanpur heat.

During the lunch break, Robbie was seen coming out of the gate with tiger stripes painted on his face and coming near the gate meant for media persons.

Security officials and Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) officials gave him a chair, offered him water and soon arranged for an ambulance to take him to a medical facility.

Video recorded at the time showed Robbie in distress, and while his words were unclear, he indicated he had been punched from behind in the lower back, and elbowed in the ribs. He appeared breathless and struggling.

All this happened when protests against playing Test matches continued in Bangladesh's Kanpur. Like on the eve of the match, activists affiliated with some political parties protested on Friday, barely a kilometer away from the stadium. The protests are a response to reports that there have been attacks against members of the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh over the past month and a half.

Bangladesh has been in turmoil since July, when student-led protests toppled Sheikh Hasina's Awami League government.
