Bangladesh to tour America for three T20 matches before the World Cup

New Delhi, March 15 (HS). Before the T20 World Cup, Bangladesh will tour America for a three-match T20 series in May. Both sides have never played a T20 match against each other before. Bangladesh will use this series to prepare for the T20 World Cup to be co-hosted by the United States and West Indies. The first match of the three-match T20 series between the United States and Bangladesh will be played on May 21, followed by the remaining two matches on May 23 and 25 respectively.

The USA will also play Canada in a five-match T20 series in April. All games will be hosted by the Prairie View Cricket Complex in Houston, Texas.

Bangladesh have played two T20Is in the United States in their history, both against the West Indies in 2018. In their first two matches of the World Cup 2024, Bangladesh will face Sri Lanka and South Africa in Dallas and New York respectively, and the series will help them get used to the conditions.

“For the Bangladesh team, this tour will act as an ideal platform to acclimatise to the conditions ahead of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024,” Bangladesh Cricket Board CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury said in a statement on Thursday. “We recognize the importance of this preparation phase and are committed to making the most of this invaluable experience.”

Bangladesh were eliminated in the group stage of the last T20 World Cup and will be hoping for a better performance after a disappointing performance in the ODI World Cup.

The United States and Canada, who are set to participate in the tournament for the first time – will begin their campaign in Dallas on June 2. The five T20Is the United States has played in the last two years all came in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Qualifier 2022 in July. Canada's only T20I match last year was in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Americas region final, which they won to qualify for the World Cup.

“Ahead of the important Men's T20 World Cup, these games will be important for our team to find its working combination, build team cohesion and develop better strategies,” USA Cricket President Venu Pisike said.

Canada and the US are part of Group A along with India, Ireland and Pakistan in the T20 World Cup. Bangladesh are part of Group D, and will play against Nepal and Netherlands in Kingstown, West Indies.
