Bangladesh has forgotten the atrocities of 1971. Keen to build strong ties with India | News India

Dhaka: The interim government of Bangladesh now wants to strengthen relations with Pakistan. Recently, a minister of that interim government had said that Bangladesh wants to resolve the issues of the 1971 war with Pakistan.

It must be remembered that Bangladesh was born because of the 1971 war.

Several ministers and MPs of Bangladesh's Mohammad Yunus government held talks with Pakistan's High Commissioner Syed Ahmed Maruf. Nahid Islam, a minister in Mohammad Yunus' government, was also present in that group. At that time Maruf had said that now we should forget the events of 1971. Actually this issue needed to be resolved long ago. Pakistan now wants to resolve that controversial issue.

The Pakistani ambassador further said that now we want to strengthen our relations again. Along with this, Maruf said that the previous government did not give us any opportunity to strengthen the relationship. In response, Nahid said, 1971 was an important year in the political history of Bangladesh. Awami-League (Sheikh Hasina's party) says that 1971 is the last history (of relations with Pakistan), but we feel that that year was actually a year of continuous history.
