Bangladesh doctors on nationwide strike to protest against attack and misbehavior on medical staff at Dhaka hospital | News India

Dhaka, September 2 (HS). Doctors in public and private hospitals in Bangladesh announced a nationwide strike on Sunday to protest the attack on medical workers following the death of a student at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). The protesting doctors demanded immediate legal and punitive action against those guilty of the attack, as well as security at workplaces as a precondition for returning to work.

Doctors across the country have announced a complete shutdown of all public and private hospitals from September 1 over four-point demands. Their demands include the arrest of those involved in the attack on doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Saturday night.

“The sooner they accept our demands, the better. We will start treating (patients) as soon as our demands are met,” the protesting doctors told the media at the DMCH campus. They said nurses also expressed solidarity with the doctors and refused to come to work.

When asked who would take responsibility if someone died due to lack of treatment, the protesting doctors said that the administration would be responsible for any such incident. The doctors demanded immediate security measures through deployment of armed “health police” in all health care facilities in the country.
