The Women's T20 World Cup 2024 is to be held in Bangladesh. 10 teams are going to participate in this tournament to be held from October 3 to October 20. A total of 23 matches will be played in these 18 days. However, due to the current political turmoil in Bangladesh, it seems difficult to organize the tournament. The biggest reason behind this is that due to violence in the country, many top officials including the President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board have fled the country.
Keeping security in mind, the ICC has started looking for other options for the tournament. Meanwhile, news has come that the army's help can now be taken to conduct the T20 World Cup in a safe manner.
a letter to the army
There have been massive protests and violence in Bangladesh. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned and left the country. After this, her supporters are also being driven away. According to a Cricbuzz report, the president, director and several senior officials of the Bangladesh Cricket Board were also forced to leave the country during the series. Sheikh Hasina was believed to be a supporter of the Awami League. Apart from this, an emergency has also been imposed across the country and an interim government has been formed.
Security is a huge problem in Bangladesh
Security is a big problem in Bangladesh right now. In such a situation, it seems difficult to organize the Women's T20 World Cup there. Now this is the last hope left for BCB. Therefore, the board has written a letter to Army Chief General Waqar Uz Zaman demanding adequate security arrangements for organizing the tournament. Umpire Committee Chairman Iftikhar Ahmed Mithu has revealed that most of the board members have left the country. Only 2 months are left in the tournament and the help of the army has been taken.
ICC sought security guarantee
Iftikhar Ahmed Mithu said that there has been a discussion between BCB and ICC on this issue. ICC has asked for a guarantee of safety of the players. According to Mithu, this is not the job of the board but of the agencies engaged in the security of the country. Therefore, the army has written a letter to ICC and asked for assurance of security. BCBA has to respond by August 10. After that a decision will be taken on where the tournament will be organized.
T20 World Cup can be organized in these countries
In view of the violence in Bangladesh, the ICC has found 3 options that match the time zone of Bangladesh. For this, India, Sri Lanka and UAE have been selected. If the situation in Bangladesh does not improve and it fails to provide security, then one of these three countries will be selected for the T20 World Cup.
