Ban on mobile internet in 9 districts, suspended till December 3

Due to the recent communal violence in Manipur, internet services have been suspended in a total of 9 districts of the state since November 16. The internet ban imposed by the government was extended by two days till 3 December. Violence broke out after bodies of three women and three children from the Meitei community were found.

The Manipur government on Sunday extended the ban on mobile internet in 9 districts till December 3. Earlier this ban was till December 1 due to recent incidents of violence. In the order issued by the Home Department, the ban on mobile internet has been extended by two more days till December 3.

In the order issued by the Home Department, it has been said that the ban on internet has been extended in Imphal West, Imphal East, Kakching, Bishnupur, Thobal, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Farjawal and Jiribam. Internet services have been suspended in these districts since November 16 due to the recent violence.

Internet services closed till December 3 evening

A Home Department order said that in view of the prevailing law and order situation, the state government has decided to suspend mobile internet, including VSAT and VPN services, till December 3. According to the order issued, the ban will remain in place in all 9 districts of Manipur till 5:15 pm on December 3.

Violence erupted after bodies of three women and three children were found in Jiri and Barak rivers in Manipur and Assam respectively. Due to which internet services have been stopped from 16th November. However, keeping health and educational institutions in mind, the ban on broadband services was lifted on 19 November.

Women and children were missing from the relief camp

Violence escalated in Manipur after three women and three children from the Meitei community went missing from a relief camp in Jiribam district. The incident occurred after 10 terrorists were killed in a gunfight between security forces and Kuki-Jo terrorists on November 11. Later the bodies of those 6 people were found.

Kuki-Jo terrorists targeted the police station. After which 10 terrorists were killed in a clash with the police. Cookie-Jo says he was not an extremist. In May last year, communal violence broke out between the Meiti and Kuki-Jo communities in Manipur. More than 250 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in the violence.
