Jammu, September 13 (HS). Padma Shri Balwant Thakur, Director of Natarang was honoured by Shri Mata Vaishno University, Katra at Matrika Auditorium here on Friday. The honour was presented by Vice Chancellor of SMVD University Prof. (Dr.) Pragati Kumar. Balwant Thakur is touring almost all the major educational institutions of Jammu region these days with his new remarkable play 'Naye Yug Ki Nari'. In this series 'Naye Yug Ki Nari' has mesmerized many prestigious institutions including IIM Jammu, AIIMS Jammu, University of Jammu, GCW Gandhi Nagar, GCW Parade, Government SPMR College of Commerce and Government MAM College.
As an experiment, Balwant Thakur selected new theatre aspirants from two prominent women's colleges of the city under an internship programme and trained them to such a level that today they are surprising everyone with their mesmerizing performances. The idea behind taking this play to all the important institutions is to inspire young students to try out theatre during their student life. Theatre is the most effective medium of personality development and has the immense potential to transform a person magically.
After watching the live performance by the young girl artists in the play Naya Yug Ki Nari, Vice Chancellor of SMVD University Prof. (Dr.) Pragati Kumar appreciated this unique initiative of Balwant Thakur and wished that such unique theatre training should be started in SMVD University also with the aim of holistic development of students. She appreciated the concept, theme and new presentation style of the play which she described as quite simple but very effective in communication and intellectual engagement.
