BALCO celebrated World Youth Skills Day with Vedanta Skill School

Korba, July 16 (HS). Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), a Vedanta Group company, has made rural youth self-reliant through its Vedanta Skill School. This initiative of the company has helped bring socio-economic change in the lives of 12,000 youths of Chhattisgarh since 2010. On World Youth Skills Day today, on Tuesday, BALCO organized a program for more than 100 trainees at Vedanta Skill School in which information was given on the importance of skills in empowering youth and recognizing their potential.

The event included competitions designed to promote both personal growth and professional development. These were aimed at enhancing the skills of the students in their respective trades as well as promoting their overall personality. The event was full of fun and excitement which included dance performances, fashion shows, cooking challenges and electrical model making apart from other engaging activities.

Kashish Yangde, a trainee in the Solar PV Installer trade, sharing her experience said, “I wanted to be financially strong and support my family. Working with solar energy is incredibly satisfying. With the growing focus on solar sources by companies and government bodies, I am proud to be skilled in this trade.”

Speaking on the significance of the Vedanta Skill School initiative, Rajesh Kumar, CEO & Director, BALCO said, “At Vedanta, sustainable livelihood development is at the core of our community efforts. Equipping our youth with the right skills and education is essential to shape the future of Chhattisgarh and India. Vedanta Skill Schools create pathways for local youth to acquire employable skills that ensure their financial security and economic growth. By empowering individuals, we contribute to community development and the larger goal of a strong India.”

Vedanta Skill School is providing free residential training in a total of seven trades including Hospitality, Welding, Sewing Machine Operator, Solar PV Technician, Electrical, Fitter-Leveling Alignment Balancing and Mobile Repair Operator. The 45 to 60 days training program has been designed as per the guidelines of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).
