Paris Paralympics 2024, Pramod Bhagat: India has suffered a major setback ahead of the Paris Paralympics 2024. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) on Tuesday announced that badminton player Pramod Bhagat has been suspended for 18 months for violating anti-doping rules. Due to the suspension, Bhagat will not be able to participate in the Paris Paralympics. Bhagat won the gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020 by defeating Daniel Bethell of Great Britain in the final of the men's singles Scel3 category.

Pramod Bhagat did not disclose his whereabouts three times in the last 12 months. Therefore, he has been accused of violating BWF's anti-doping rule 'whereabouts'. BWF said in a statement, 'On March 1, 2024, the Anti-Doping Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) found Bhagat guilty of violating anti-doping rules. Therefore, Pramod Bhagat has been suspended for 18 months and he will not be able to participate in the Paris Paralympics. He failed to disclose his whereabouts three times in a year.'

Bhagat appealed against this decision to the Appellate Division of CAS, which was rejected last month. The statement said that his appeal was rejected on July 29, 2024 and the Doping Division of CAS confirmed the decision on March 1, 2024. Now his suspension has been implemented. The suspension will be effective till September 1, 2025. Let us tell you here that the Paris Paralympics 2024 is to be held from 28 August to 28 September.

Pramod Bhagat was born on 4 June 1988 in Hajipur, Bihar. However, Pramod later settled in Odisha. Bhagat suffered from polio at the age of four. He was inspired to play badminton after watching his neighbour play.
