Toxic Metals in Catholic: A study by American scientists has brought bad news for chocolate lovers. Toxic heavy metals have been found in many chocolate products, which can be extremely dangerous for health.
According to the New York Post report, research conducted by the University of Washington in the United States found high levels of lead and cadmium in many chocolate products. In this study, scientists analyzed 72 products made of cocoa, including dark chocolate, over 8 years. Researchers found that 43% of chocolate products contained lead above the prescribed limit, while 35% of products contained cadmium above the required amount.
What is worrying is that organic products contain more toxic metals. Researchers said this contamination in chocolate products could occur in the soil or during manufacturing. The study was based on different brands and types of chocolate, and found that many products had levels of several toxic metals above the standard.
Lead is a very toxic element that can remain in the body for a long time. Exposure to it adversely affects the nervous system, kidney and heart health. Once ingested by children, this toxin can affect mental development. Talking about other toxic metals, cadmium is also a toxic heavy metal that affects the kidneys and bones. Long-term exposure to this substance can cause many serious diseases including bone weakness and kidney disease. High levels of these substances can enter chocolate during production and processing.
