Ayushmann Khurrana’s magic worked at the box office over the weekend, spy comedy ‘Udta Teer’ collected crores of rupees on the third day.

Bollywood’s versatile actor Ayushmann Khurrana has once again succeeded in winning the hearts of the audience in theaters with his unique genre. His new spy comedy film ‘Udta Teer’, which hit the big screens on October 23, has performed brilliantly at the box office in its opening weekend and has registered a bang. The refreshing pairing of Sara Ali Khan and Ayushmann Khurrana is receiving a lot of love from both the audience and film critics. While the film had a respectable start on the first day of its release i.e. Friday, the film has seen an unprecedented jump in its collections on Saturday and Sunday. This film has emerged as the first weekend choice for families, youth and comedy genre lovers, due to which a huge presence of audience was recorded in multiplexes and single screen theaters across the country.

According to data from trade tracking website Sacknilk, the film took a solid opening of Rs 4.10 crore on its first day on Friday. On the back of positive word of mouth and excellent reviews on social media, its business witnessed a huge jump of over 75 per cent on the second day on Saturday and made a turnover of Rs 7.25 crore. Taking full advantage of the holiday on the third day i.e. Sunday, the film maintained its strong hold and earned a handsome amount of Rs 7.27 crore. A total of 5,691 shows were run for the film across the country on Sunday, with an average occupancy of around 24 percent. Evening and night shows were completely houseful in the major circuits of Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.

The film ‘Udta Teer’ has achieved a very strong position financially in the first weekend of its first three days. The total net collection of the film so far at the domestic box office has been Rs 18.62 crore, while its Gross India collection has crossed the figure of Rs 22.11 crore. Trade pundits believe that this opening is very encouraging for a spy comedy made in a medium budget, especially at a time when the audience prefers to watch only those films in theaters that give them novelty and a lot of entertainment.

After the official figures of Sunday came out, the box office card of the film was as follows: Net collection of Rs 4.10 crore on the first day, Rs 7.25 crore on the second day and Rs 7.27 crore on the third day. This continuously rising graph of the film clearly shows that the audience is liking its comedy and detective story. If the film maintains this trend in the range of Rs 2 to 3 crores on working days i.e. between Monday to Thursday, then it will move towards proving to be a huge hit at the box office.

The biggest strength of the film ‘Udta Teer’ is its unconventional story and its entertaining screenplay. The plot of the film is woven around the character Bilal Ahmed played by Ayushmann Khurrana. Bilal is actually a trained sleeper agent of Pakistan’s intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), who is assigned the task of infiltrating the Indian Counter Terrorism Squad (CTS) in Baramulla, Kashmir as part of a major secret mission. Bilal cleverly makes his way into the Indian security system, but then the story takes an unexpected turn.

Due to a horrific accident, Bilal suffers a severe head injury and loses his memory completely. After forgetting his past life and real identity, Bilal realizes that he is actually a staunch and true Indian patriotic spy. The funniest aspect of the film is this confusion where Bilal is seen saying that ‘I remember patriotism, but I don’t remember which country’. With his newfound self-realization, Bilal starts working with full dedication for India and knowingly or unknowingly starts tearing apart the same terrorist and spy network of Pakistan that had sent him to India. His unexpected behavior shocks his real ISI handlers and fellow terrorists sitting across the border and creates a huge chaos among them, which becomes a reason for laughter on the screen.

‘Udta Teer’ has been directed and written by talented filmmaker Akash Kaushik. He has brilliantly incorporated the serious subject of patriotism and espionage into a very sensitive, funny and tickling comedy. The film has been produced under the joint aegis of two big and prestigious banners of Indian cinema, ‘Dharma Productions’ and ‘Sikhya Entertainment’. It has been produced on a large scale by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawala, Oscar-winning producers Guneet Monga, Apoorva Mehta and Achin Jain. The production quality, music and background score keep the film moving steadily.

On the acting front, the chemistry between Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan in the lead roles is very effortless and entertaining. Sara Ali Khan has given a great balance to the complicated character of Ayushmann as a smart and intelligent character. The army of supporting actors has made the film even richer. Veteran actors Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev, Suhail Nayyar, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Brijendra Kala and Sandeep Anand have breathed life into their respective characters. Especially the comic timing scenes of Brijendra Kala and Ram Kapoor make the audience laugh in the theatres. Overall, ‘Udta Teer’ has strongly won the box office front in its opening weekend.
