Ayushman Vaya Vandana Card: 2.5 lakh senior citizens aged 70 years and above registered for Ayushman Vaya Vandana Card issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in just 42 days (less than two months), setting a new record.
This scheme, which was started on October 29 this year, has been accepted by the people, so far 22 thousand senior citizens have been provided free treatment. Till now, 22 thousand senior citizens have availed the benefit of this card and got free treatment worth Rs 40 crore. According to the Health Ministry, this free insurance scheme extended under the Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) is for the elderly from all social and economic classes.
So far, 22 thousand senior citizens above 70 years of age have been treated for major diseases including coronary angioplasty, hip fracture/replacement, gall bladder removal, cataract operation, stroke and hemodialysis. This also includes common medicines and common operations.
People above 70 years of age will benefit through this card.
Nearly two thousand medical procedures can be performed in 27 specialized hospitals across the country. Apart from covering all existing diseases, bone, heart and cancer treatments are also covered from day one. This scheme will benefit 4.5 crore families and six crore people above 70 years of age.
According to the ministry, senior citizens who are already beneficiaries of various government schemes like CGHS, ECHS and Ayushman Central Armed Police Forces will have to choose between the existing scheme and the AB-PMJAY scheme. There are a total of 29,870 hospitals in the Ayushman Vaya Vandana Card Scheme panel, out of which 13,173 are private hospitals.
