Chandigarh : The central government has decided to include people above 70 years of age in the Ayushman Bharat scheme. It has been approved in the cabinet. More than 15 lakh people in Punjab are above 70 years of age. If we look at the number of voters above 70 years of age with the Election Commission, this number is 15,09,266. Under this scheme, now all senior citizens above 70 years of age will get free and cashless treatment of Rs 5 lakh annually. 6 crore senior citizens will benefit from this scheme. To avail the benefits of this demand based scheme, senior citizens will have to register. The central government is going to start the registration process soon.
According to the data of the Election Commission, 17 transgenders will also come under the purview of this scheme, while 7.32 lakh men and 7.76 lakh women will be able to take advantage of this scheme. Let us tell you that the number of senior citizens in the state is 1.89 lakh who are above 85 years of age. Ludhiana, the largest district in terms of population, has the highest number of elderly people. Whose number is 1.83 lakh while the second district is Amritsar. Where 1.45 lakh senior citizens are above 70 years of age.
