The Australian team has suffered injuries during the Boxing Day Test being played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Fast bowler Mitchell Starc suffered a back problem while bowling on the third day, due to which he could not bowl much at the end of the day. At the same time, wicketkeeper batsman Josh Inglis is out of the entire Test series. However, it is expected that Starc can be seen bowling on the last day of the Test.

Mitchell Starc’s injury: What does his performance say?

  • Problem of the third day:
Starc complained of back pain while bowling on the third day. Due to this he could not bowl at the beginning of the fourth day.
  • Update on fitness:
    • Starc bowled at a speed of 140 kilometers per hour in the nets on the fourth day, which gave some confidence about his fitness.
    • Stark said, “Everything is alright. There has been no decrease in my speed, and I am fully prepared.”

What did Scott Boland say?

Australian fast bowler Scott Boland gave a positive update on the condition of Mitchell Starc.

  • His statement:
    • “Starc has a slight injury in his back or rib, but he came on the field after the tea break and bowled at a pace of 140k. I think he will be fit.”
    • Boland also said that a strong player like Starc is not given as much importance as he should get.
  • Previous Experience:
    • “He broke his finger at the MCG a few years ago, but he still came on the field and bowled swing balls at 140k speed.”

Josh Inglis: out of the entire series

Josh Inglis, who did not get a chance to play in this series but was traveling with the team, is now out of the entire series.

  • In his place, Beau Webster can be included in the Australia playing XI as a proper batsman.
  • He could replace Mitchell Marsh in the team, who has failed to make an impact with both bat and ball in this Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Shock for Australia before Sydney Test

The fifth and last day of the Boxing Day Test is to be played on 30 December.

  • Mitchell Starc’s injury:
    • If he is not fit, Australia’s bowling attack may be affected.
  • Sydney Test:
    • Starc’s injury is a big concern for Australia before the last Test to be played in Sydney.
