Important information has come to light for daily commuters and long distance rail passengers traveling through Pune Railway Division of Central Railway. The mega block is being taken up by the railway administration to strengthen the railway infrastructure, speed up the doubling work and modern electronic interlocking. As a result of this the upcoming 4 October 2026 Till now, major changes have been made in the routes of 25 important express and superfast trains passing through Pune division and originating from here. Due to the block, many major trains will run with a delay of 2 hours to a maximum of 7 hours (Regulation/Rescheduling) from their scheduled time.
According to the Public Relations Department of Central Railway, Non-Interlocking (NI) work is going on war footing to improve safety standards and capacity expansion on the connecting rail sections of South Western Railway (SWR) and Central Railway.
Railway officials say that this technical work is mandatory to increase the speed of trains in future and ensure punctuality. During the work, the power supply and signaling system on the main lines will be affected, due to which it has been decided to run trains through alternative and longer routes in view of safety.
According to the official notification issued by the Railways, till October 4, the routes of trains mainly going towards South India, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and North India have been changed:

Pune-Bengaluru and southbound trains: Due to the ongoing work on the Pune-Miraj-Hubli main route, many trains are being diverted via Kurduvadi, Pandharpur, Miraj or Wadi-Daund alternate corridors.

Link trains of North and Central India: Some weekly and regular trains towards Gorakhpur, Danapur, Hazrat Nizamuddin and Howrah have been given alternative pathway via Daund Chord Line or Manmad-Igatpuri section.

Major affected vehicles: There has been partial change in the scheduled stoppage stations of long distance trains like Yesvantpur Express, Pune-Ernakulam Express, Dadar-Hubli Express, and Kolhapur-Ahmedabad Express. Passengers of stations which will not come under the purview of the changed route, will have to catch trains from nearby junctions.
Apart from route diversions, traffic congestion on the track and single-line working have led to drastic changes in timings of several trains:

Due to crossings and speed restrictions in various divisions en route, trains will be regulated by 45 minutes to 120 minutes at various stations, due to which passengers may take additional time to reach the destination.

This will also have a partial impact on suburban and passenger services, due to which daily working commuters may face inconvenience.
Expressing regret for the inconvenience caused to the passengers, the Railway Administration has appealed that they must check the accurate and real-time status of their train before leaving for the station:
