New Delhi/Yamunanagar: If any old challan of your vehicle is also pending, then fill it immediately, otherwise you may get into big trouble. The government and traffic police have now adopted a policy of ‘zero tolerance’ against those who do not pay challan. According to the new rules, if you do not pay the challan within 90 days, not only will your vehicle be confiscated, but you may also have to go to jail for up to 6 months.
90 days grace period is over, now direct action will be taken
According to the traffic police, after the implementation of the e-challan system, lakhs of challans are lying pending, causing huge loss of revenue. Earlier people used to ignore challan for years, but the strict rules implemented from April 1, 2025 have increased their problems. As soon as the time limit of 90 days is over, the police can reach your house and seize the vehicle. After this the matter will go to court, where there is a provision of imprisonment along with heavy fine.
How to check your status on e-challan portal
For the convenience of vehicle owners, the Central Government has made the digital process extremely transparent. You can go to the ‘Parivahan Seva’ portal sitting at home and enter your vehicle number to check whether any old challan is outstanding. Easy options like UPI, Net Banking and Debit Card are available for payment. In some states, up to 50% discount (Discount Scheme) is also being given on timely payment.
What to do to avoid going to jail and case?
Officials say that the easiest way to avoid punishment is to pay the challan as soon as it is issued. If you feel that the challan has been wrongly deducted, you can appeal in the court within 30 days. This strict step has been taken to promote road safety and reduce accidents. Traffic in-charge has already issued a warning in areas like Yamunanagar and soon this strictness is going to be implemented in the entire country.
