According to the information, the victim girl lives with her family in the teacher’s residence located in the university campus. The incident happened when she was going for some work inside the campus. It is alleged that a young man sitting in ambush took advantage of the deserted road and caught hold of the girl and tried to rape her by doing obscene acts with her. When the girl raised an alarm, the accused ran away from there. The incident has dealt a blow to the university’s claims of a ‘safe campus’.

As soon as information about the incident was received, Kalyanpur police station and university security officials reached the spot. On the complaint of the victim, the police immediately registered a case. It is being told that on the basis of CCTV footage and information from informers, the police have detained a suspect, who is being rigorously interrogated. Top officials of Kanpur Police say that ‘zero tolerance’ policy will be adopted on crimes against women and the culprit will be given the harshest punishment.
