Farmer shot dead in Kapurthala: Heartbreaking news has come out from Kapurthala. A farmer was shot dead in the head late in the evening in Jhal Lakhkariwal village of the district. According to sources, the murder was committed over a land dispute. The body of the deceased has been sent to Civil Hospital Kapurthala for post-mortem.

In this case, Kapurthala police has registered a case against Ratan Singh, resident of village Baltoha, Tarsem Singh, resident of Moga, Baga Singh and Nahar Singh, resident of Jhal Lakhkariwal, under various sections including murder. This has been confirmed by DSP Sub Division Deepkaran Singh. He told that the post-mortem of the body will be done today by a panel of doctors.

Police said, “On Tuesday evening, a fight broke out between two parties over a land dispute in village Jhal Lakhkariwal. The matter escalated so much that one side started firing at the other. In this, 60 year old farmer Jaspal Singh was shot. Jaspal was taken to the hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him dead.

The deceased's son, Gurmukh Singh, resident of village Sukhiya Nangal, told the police that he had taken 25 acres of land on lease in village Lakhkariwal for the last 8-9 years. On the afternoon of 22 October, he had gone with his father Jaspal Singh in his Volkswagen car (PB-08-DU-8818) to see the fields in Jhal Lakhriwal.

Then there stood Ratan Singh, Tarsem Singh, Bagga Singh, his brother and an unknown person, who had come with the intention of taking possession of the land. An unknown person came near their car and shot their father and they all fled from there.

Farmer Jaspal Singh, who was injured by the bullet, was immediately brought to the Civil Hospital for treatment, where the duty doctor declared him dead. Kapurthala police is searching for the killers in the case.
