The issue of atrocities on minority Hindus in Bangladesh and the arrest of a Hindu priest was raised in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. BJP MP Hema Malini and several other party members requested the intervention of the central government to protect Hindus in the neighboring country and also demanded a resolution be passed in Parliament.
Hema Malini raised the issue of attack on Hindus in Parliament
Raising the issue, Mathura MP Hema Malini said that the attacks by extremists on Hindus and ISKCON organization and its followers in Bangladesh are condemnable. Referring to the arrest of Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das, he said that the people of ISKCON are doing good work for humanity. He further said that Chinmoy Krishna Das was peacefully protesting against the atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh, but he was charged with treason and jailed. Two people who testified in his favor were also sent to jail.
‘Atrocities on religion will not be tolerated’
Hema Malini said that I myself am a devotee of Krishna and a follower of ISKCON. I am the representative of Mathura, the holy city of Krishna. We will not tolerate oppression on religion. This is not a matter of foreign policy, but of our feelings. He said that the Bangladesh government should ensure the safety of Hindus.
‘Central government should intervene’
On the other hand, BJP MP from Assam Dilip Saikia raised the issue of oppression of Hindus in Bangladesh and demanded that a resolution be passed in the Indian Parliament and a message be sent to the Bangladesh government to take steps to stop the oppression of Hindus. Anil Firoziya of the ruling party requested the Government of India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in this matter.
