‘Attack is the strongest defense’, praises coach Xabi Alonso and ‘Beast’ Cole Palmer

London’s famous football club Chelsea is hoisting its flag on the field in the English Premier League this season with a new attitude and aggressive strategy. After missing out on a place in European competitions last season, the club made fundamental changes to its strategy and appointed veteran Spanish tactician Xabi Alonso as the team’s new head coach. Chelsea has created a stir in the opposition camps on the basis of coach Alonso’s new thinking and aggressive football style. The most recent example of this was seen against AFC Bournemouth, where Chelsea played a one-sided game and won by a huge margin of 5-1. Brazilian star forward Joao Pedro, who scored two goals in this match, praised the team’s aggressive game and said that in modern football, continuous attacking is the most effective way to protect the defense and win the match.

Under the guidance of Spanish coach Xabi Alonso, Chelsea’s forward line has devastated opposition teams’ defense in the current Premier League season. Having scored 15 goals in the league so far, Chelsea is firmly in third place after Brighton and Manchester City in the list of teams scoring the most goals. Chelsea’s forward trio—Joao Pedro, Cole Palmer and Morgan Rodgers—have looked in excellent form this season. However, while on one hand the team’s attack has been of top level, on the other hand some flaws in the defense have also come to the fore. The team has conceded 13 goals so far in the current season, which is the highest in the league along with Bournemouth. But last Saturday, when Chelsea faced Bournemouth, their forwards covered every defensive flaw and scored a 5-1 victory. In this match, Joao Pedro and Jordan Henderson scored two spectacular goals each, while Morgan Rogers scored an excellent goal by beating the goalkeeper.

Speaking to official broadcaster GeoStar after the match against Bournemouth, Joao Pedro detailed the team’s attacking returns and the strategies implemented on the field. He added that head coach Pedro said that when the frontline creates consistent chances, big scores naturally happen. He also highlighted that goals for Chelsea are not just limited to the front three, with the midfielders and defenders also coming forward and scoring from set-piece opportunities such as corners and free-kicks. According to Pedro, when threats can arise from any part of the field, it becomes extremely complicated for any opposing team to strategize and defend against them.

Joao Pedro has heaped praise on Chelsea’s rising star Cole Palmer, calling him a ‘beast’ of the football world i.e. an extraordinary talent. This young aggressive midfielder from England has scored two brilliant goals so far in the current Premier League season and has shown the team the path to victory by providing direct assists in three goals. Pedro said that Palmer is a complete footballer who has an extraordinary ability to score goals, make accurate passes and convert free-kicks from any distance. He noted Palmer’s spectacular goals against Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion, saying he had a magical knack for turning matches in pressure moments, placing him among the most special players in contemporary football.

After defeating Bournemouth, Chelsea has reached sixth place in the Premier League points table. The London Blues are next scheduled to play against Everton on Saturday, October 17. Due to not participating in the UEFA Champions League this season, Chelsea have been relieved of player fatigue compared to other top English clubs and the team is completely fresh. Freed from the pressure of back-to-back matches, Xabi Alonso’s side are focusing solely on the Premier League. Chelsea’s main goal is to maintain the winning streak in the upcoming matches and secure their place in the top four places of the points table and secure the Champions League ticket for the next season.
