Delhi Court directs CM Atishi to appear: Delhi's newly elected Chief Minister Atishi will take charge today. However, before this the Aam Aadmi Party leader will have to appear in court. Atishi took oath as the eighth Chief Minister of Delhi on Saturday evening. After the announcement of Arvind Kejriwal's resignation, Atishi's name was proposed as the next Chief Minister. At present, Atishi's troubles are going to increase.

He has been directed to appear in court on October 3

Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court has directed Chief Minister Atishi to appear in court. Apart from Atishi, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other AAP leaders have been directed to appear in court on October 3.

What is the whole matter?

One case where Chief Minister Atishi may be in trouble is related to defamation. BJP leader Rajiv Babbar has filed a defamation case against Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi. The case arose from allegations made by the Aam Aadmi Party in 2018, in which the BJP was accused of removing the names of about 30 lakh voters from the voter list in the national capital.

Following these allegations, a magistrate issued summons to former CM Kejriwal, Atishi and other AAP leaders in March 2019. The AAP leaders initially sought relief from the sessions court, but the summons order was upheld. The matter then reached the Delhi High Court, which temporarily stayed the proceedings against them in February 2022.

In a major legal setback to the Aam Aadmi Party, the Delhi High Court a few days ago dismissed the petition of Arvind Kejriwal, Atishi and other leaders seeking withdrawal of the criminal defamation case. The court also withdrew the interim order giving protection to Kejriwal, Atishi and other AAP leaders and directed the parties to appear in the lower court. At present, the Rouse Avenue Court has asked the AAP leaders to appear in the court.
