Mumbai: A youth claiming to be an astrologer and five others have been booked for looting Rs 52.80 lakh and 268 grams of gold jewelery from a Borivali woman after promising her partnership in the hotel business.
A police officer said that a woman living in Borivali and her family were being cheated by astrologer Vijay Balu Joshi (28) and his associates since January 2020.
The astrologer made false promises to the victim and demanded money to invest in the hotel business. The accused also took money to repay the borrowed amount to his creditors.
The gang took Rs 52.80 lakh and 268 grams of gold jewelery from the woman on the pretext of talking to her. But finally when the woman realized that the astrologer had cheated the young man, she reported the matter to Borivali police station.
Based on the complaint of the victim, the police have registered a case against Jyotish and five others under sections of cheating, superstition, black magic and are investigating further.
