Tafazul Islam, the prime accused in the Assam gang rape case, has died after drowning in a lake. On Saturday morning, when the police were taking the accused Tafazul to the crime scene, he jumped into the lake to escape from the police but died after drowning.
Two other accused in this incident are still absconding and are being searched for. According to the police, efforts were made to find the accused as soon as he jumped into the lake, but his body was found after two hours of search. It is worth noting that a minor student was raped by three people in Ghing of Nagaon district of Assam. The victim was returning home from tuition on Thursday evening when three accused on a motorcycle gang-raped her. After this, they left the child in an unconscious state near the pond and fled. The police arrested one accused on Friday and the search for the other two is on.

On Saturday morning itself, the villagers decided that the body of the accused will not be allowed to be buried in the village graveyard. The people of the village also took out a rally to the village mosque in protest against the gang rape.
