Assam Bans Serving Of Beef In Hotels: Taking an important decision, the Himanta Biswa Sarma government of Assam has banned serving and eating beef in hotels, restaurants and public places in Assam. In the state cabinet meeting, it was decided to amend the existing law on beef consumption and include new provisions.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday announced that the Assam government has decided to ban serving and eating beef in restaurants, hotels and public places.
In the state cabinet meeting, it was decided to amend the existing law on beef consumption and include new provisions. “We have decided to ban serving and eating beef in restaurants, hotels and public places,” Sarma told a press conference.
Sarma further said that our government had passed a law banning cow slaughter three years ago. Now we have implemented a ban on eating beef in the entire state. This order will be applicable to all hotels, restaurants and public events.
He said that earlier we had banned eating or serving beef within a radius of five kilometers of the temple, but now as per the new order, we are issuing this order in the entire state.

On the orders of Himanta Biswa, Assam Minister Piyush Hazarika has tweeted and advised Assam Congress to welcome the beef ban. “I challenge the Assam Congress to either welcome the ban on beef or go and settle in Pakistan,” he said in a social media post.
