Indian athletes won three medals at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2024 in Tehran, Iran on Saturday. Harmilan Bains and Jyoti Yaraji won gold in the women's 1500m and 60m respectively, while Tajinderpal Singh Toor won gold in the men's shot put.
Tajinderpal Singh Toor created a new record with a throw of 19.72 meters. Broke Vikas Gowda's 19-year-old record of 19.60 metres. Similarly, Harmilan completed the race in 4 minutes 29 seconds and became the champion. In the women's 60 meter race, Jyoti Yaraji won the medal by defeating Asuka Terada of Japan and Lui Lai Yiu of Hong Kong, China. Asian Games champion Tajinderpal Singh Toor, who won the only gold medal for India at the Asian Indoor Championships last year, successfully defended his title in men's shot put. In the outdoor event, Asian record holder Toor recorded a best throw of 19.72 meters with his second throw. With this, he also broke the previous record of 19.60 made by Vikas Gowda in the year 2005.
