ASI of Phillaur police station was caught taking bribe of Rs 10 thousand, asked for Rs 1.5 lakh in return for removing name from the case, deal made for Rs 50 thousand

Jalandhar: During the anti-corruption campaign in the state, Punjab Vigilance Bureau today arrested ASI Harbhajan Lal, posted at Phillaur police station in Jalandhar district, red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 10,000.

Giving information in this regard, Vigilance Bureau spokesperson said that the said policeman has been arrested on the basis of the complaint of Shindu resident of village Nangal tehsil Phillaur. The said complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau and alleged that during the investigation of the police case registered against his son, the said ASI had demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from him in exchange for removing his name from the case, but the deal could not be done. . Rs 50,000 was fixed. He further said that the accused has already taken Rs 10,000 in this regard.

The spokesperson said that after preliminary investigation of this complaint, the Vigilance Bureau team laid a trap and arrested the said ASI red handed while taking Rs 10,000 as first installment of bribe from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses. He said that a case has been registered against the accused under the Anti-Corruption Act at Police Station Vigilance Bureau, Jalandhar Range. He further said that the accused will be produced in the court tomorrow and further investigation into the matter is going on.
