In Sanatan Dharma, there are a total of four Navratri in a year, out of which two Chaitra and Sharadiya Navratri are celebrated normally in front of everyone, while two are ‘Gupt Navratri’. Gupt Navratri of Shukla Paksha of Ashadh month has started from tomorrow i.e. 15th July 2026 (Wednesday), which will continue till 23rd July 2026.
This Navratri is completely different from the normal Navratri festival. While in Chaitra and Shardiya Navratri, there is public sattvik worship of the nine forms of Goddess Durga, Gupt Navratri is especially known for the confidential sadhana and tantric worship of the 10 Mahavidyas. It is believed that the more secret the devotion and sadhana done during this period is kept, the faster its results are achieved.
10 Mahavidyas of Gupt Navratri and their importance
According to mythological beliefs, these ten Mahavidyas of Gupt Navratri are considered to be the physical form of Mother Sati, which she had assumed to stop Mahadev. During these nine days, worship of Mata Kali, Tara Devi, Tripura Sundari, Bhuvaneshwari, Chhinnamasta, Tripura Bhairavi, Dhumavati, Baglamukhi, Matangi and Kamala Devi is done. It is believed that by worshiping them with devotion, even the biggest problems of life are solved and happiness, peace and prosperity reside in the house.
According to the scriptures, the full results of fasting and doing sadhana during these holy nine days are achieved only when the Aarti of Goddess Durga is performed with full devotion at the end of the puja.

Some important rules of Gupt Navratri fast

Privacy: During this period, do not reveal your worship, mantra chanting and resolutions to anyone.

Satvikta: If you are fasting for nine days, eat completely sattvic food (fruits) and stay away from tamasic things (onion, garlic).

Akhand Jyoti: Many devotees also light the Akhand Jyoti in front of the Mother Goddess during these nine days, which destroys the negative energy in the house.
