The Supreme Court will hear on Thursday (May 16, 2024) Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's plea against the ED's arrest in a money laundering case related to Delhi Liquor Policy. The case will be heard by the bench of Justices Sanjeev Khanna and Dipankar Dutta. This is listed as a routine case.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal is currently on interim bail till June 1. While ordering bail to Arvind Kejriwal, a bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutta said, “Lok Sabha elections are one of the most important events of this year. Millions of voters of this country elect the government for the next five years. These general elections further strengthen democracy.
“Considering its importance, we reject the prosecution's contention that it would put politicians in an advantageous position over the common citizens of this country,” the bench said. Meanwhile, the High Court had said that despite repeatedly sending summons, they are not joining the investigation. In such a situation, ED was left with no option.
