New Delhi, August 31 (HS). Arsenal have signed Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling on loan for the remainder of the season, the club confirmed on Friday.
Sterling has three years remaining on his current contract at Chelsea but was deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
Having previously been linked with Man United, Sterling completed his move to Arsenal just before the close of the summer transfer window.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta last week distanced the club from a Sterling transfer although he spoke positively about his character after working together for three years at Manchester City.
Arsenal have remained open to signing an attacking player throughout the window and are discussing their options, having also been linked with a late transfer for Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman.
The move for Sterling comes after Arsenal sent fellow winger Reiss Nelson on loan to Fulham for the season, with the Gunners believing Sterling would be a better fit than the 24-year-old.
Also on Friday, Arsenal announced the signing of Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto on a one-season loan deal. Neto, 35, has been identified by Arsenal as a backup to first-choice goalkeeper David Raya, with his arrival set to allow Aaron Ramsdale to complete his move to Southampton.
