ICC issues arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant: The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Defense Minister Yoav Galant. The Hague-based World Court issued warrants against Israel’s leaders for war crimes committed during conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon, where it is at war with Hamas and Hezbollah.

The International Criminal Court has also ordered the arrest of Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif as a war criminal. In an official statement, the World Court said that “the Chamber has issued this warrant convicting two individuals, Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Galant, of war crimes.”

These allegations were made against Israel’s PM

In clear language, the ICC charged Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant with war crimes of inhumane acts of murder, torture and starvation as a method of war, as well as crimes against humanity.

Israel denies the allegations

Israel has rejected the charges brought against its leaders by the ICC. Israel says such a decision does not fall under the ICC’s jurisdiction. Israel’s main opposition leader Yair Lipid also condemned the order, calling it a reward for terrorism.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded hours after the ICC decision. “The anti-Semitism ruling of the International Court of Justice in The Hague is a modern Dreyfus trial and will end that way,” he said in a video message on his X handle.

The Dreyfus trial, which Netanyahu mentioned in his video message attacking the ICC, was a political and judicial scandal that took place in France between 1894 and 1906, in which a Jewish French army officer named Alfred Dreyfus was accused of selling military secrets. Was convicted of treason. He was later found not guilty and reinstated in the French Army.
