The International Criminal Tribunal (ICT) on Thursday issued arrest warrants against former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 45 other Awami League leaders, including former ministers and officials, according to reports. The warrant relates to alleged crimes against humanity during the July–August protests.

The order was announced before the tribunal headed by Judge MD Golam Murtuza Majumdar. The ICT took this decision on the basis of two petitions filed by the prosecution, which demanded the arrest of Sheikh Hasina and other leaders. Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam said the tribunal has ordered the concerned authorities to arrest Sheikh Hasina and 45 others and produce them before the tribunal by November 18.

According to the information, 46 people also include former ministers Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Hasan Mahmood and Anisul Haq. More than 60 cases of crimes against humanity and genocide have been registered in the ICT investigation agency against Sheikh Hasina and several other leaders of her party. The investigating agency and team have started investigating these complaints. The government has also prepared a draft to amend the International Criminal (Tribunal) Act, 1973.
